Haywire Movie Cast

What distinguishes HAYWIRE from many similar action-thrillers is the smart use of an all star cast put to great effect by talented director Steven Soderberg who understands that quick edits and jaunty music riffs can add lightness to an all-too-familiar narrative. Casting first-time actress Gina Carano as the lead performer seems a particularly big gamble that pays off each time she puts the smackdown on the bad boys out to defeat her. Castmates include veteran actors Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Channing Tatum and Michael Douglas.

Mallory Kane (Carano) can take her place alongside the Jason Bourne characters who find themselves on the wrong side of a conspiracy only because MMA star Gina Carano is physically able to throw down with all the spies she encounters as things go HAYWIRE. Paired with Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street, The Eagle) during a daunting hostage rescue, Carano sprints through the streets of Barcelona in pursuit of a kidnapper and finally bashes him into submission with her fists and a sliding metal door until he succumbs to the beating. When asked why she ran after the bad guy while the rest of her team remained safely inside a car with the hostage, Carano casually replies that she doesn't like loose ends.

Girl Power fuels HAYWIRE and no matter how hard Tatum or Fassbender (or any of her adversaries) hit back, Gina Carano prevails. Ewan McGregor (Black Hawk Down, Star Wars, The Ghost Writer) plays her boss and former lover who seems determined not to let bygones be bygones as he smiles warmly at his star agent while plotting to destroy her. Setting her up on a spy date with Fassbender (300, Inglorius Basterds, X-Men) that will end in her murder, McGregor foolishly reveals his involvement when Carano levels her would-be assassin, presses re-dial on his cellphone and hears her own bosses' voice on the line blithely asking if she's been killed. Caught in a web of deception, Kane realizes she has few remaining allies.

Returning to the United States with the help of Federal Agent Michael Douglas (Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, Falling Down), Carano seeks shelter at her father's house where Tatum & McGregor try to ambush her. Paxton gets limited screen time as her hapless dad, but the cat and mouse pursuit through his sleek glass house allows Carano to end her fellow agents in style. She makes quick work of her father's rescue, sends her boss packing and ultimately brings the rest of the evil-doers to their doom.
